Contemporary restaurant and bar interior, blending reclaimed materials and layered textures to create an immersive dining experience.

Fables is a hospitality interior design and decoration project for a contemporary restaurant, bar and event venue. Rooted in the idea of "foraging", sourcing what is available and rethinking its application, the design takes a considered, meaningful approach to materials and atmosphere. The restaurant’s vision was to show that reuse can be elevated, refined and visually striking. Through sustainable practices, locally sourced materials and collaboration with Australian artisans, the interior reflects a commitment to biodiversity and storytelling.

Natural light became a key design driver. Expansive openings and mixed glass finishes cast dappled light across both levels, contributing to a warm textural quality. The venue is zoned into a bar, lounge and private dining spaces, each designed to offer nuanced, layered experiences that encourage movement and social interaction. The more one explores the restaurant, the more the narrative unfolds.

Salvaged tile forms a mosaic facade referencing Australian native flora, paying homage to the surrounding urban culture. Locally sourced ground matter was used in forming the rammed earth internal walls, softly delineating old from new. A floating staircase constructed from contrasting repurposed travertine rises above a honey-toned resin bar, blending craft with sculptural form.

The lower dining area features reclaimed timbers reworked into seating, tables and panelling. Upstairs, the lounge and private dining room continue this approach with up-cycled hardwood, salvaged offcuts and re-use of glass bricks. The private dining table is crafted from bio-resin and reclaimed timber, anchored beneath a checkerboard arrangement of light and dark timber panelling, with blush drapery adding warmth and intimacy.

The result is a hospitality interior that reimagines industrial design through warmth, one that embraces texture, organic materiality and layered palettes. Fables reflects a broader movement in hospitality interior design, where local narrative, sustainability and material consciousness increasingly shape guest experience.
